Kingwood CLC iSpace

Launched in November 2009, the Kingwood CLC iSpace has been developed through a close collaboration between Kingwood CLC and OM Interactive.
In designing the room, we wanted to create a space that would be relevant to all our users, from Early Years to Sixth Form and for pupils with a wide range of needs. We also wanted to create a space in which the technologies would be both flexible and unobtrusive to enable learners to focus more on learning than on the technologies themselves.
The iSpace incorporates interactive light beams, interactive floor and wall projection systems, as well as the Soundbeam technology and offers enormous potential for exploration, collaboration, experimentation and the development of the creative curriculum. Involving pupils in designing interactive content also creates new opportunities for learning in art, music, dance and multimedia and has particular relevance as part of the 14-19 IT diploma.
The iSpace can be used for drama, dance and music workshops, as a performance or presentation space. It is also designed to be a learning exploratory for teachers and pupils to experiment with new and emerging technologies and consider implications for classroom design and adaptation, and for developing effective pedagogies.
A keen focus for us is to develop the potential of the OM Interactive gesture-controlled systems to enable pupils to generate their own content. This is particularly relevant for students currently taking part in the IT Diploma.
